Intro to Astro 102

In this post we talked about the basics of a chart. Now today let us talk a bit more about the basic principles of Astro. Such as elements, polarities and modes.

All together there are twelve signs, and those twelve can be split into many categories and into groups of two, three, and four. Polarities – Qualities – Element.

Polarities:

Aries – Libra

Taurus – Scorpio

Gemini – Sagittarius

Cancer – Capricorn

Leo – Aquarius

Virgo – Pisces

If you have noticed, Polarities are essentially oppositions. Each sign is paired with the sign sitting on the other side of the zodiac, taking that twelve and bring it down to two groups: Positive and Negative/Feminine-Masculine/Yin-Yang.

What it means is that six of the signs tend to be more forward in action, more aggressive in nature, where as the other six tend to be passive and allow for things to unfold.

Cardinal:

Aries

Cancer

Libra

Capricorn

Mutable:

Gemini

Virgo

Sagittarius

Pisces

Fixed:

Taurus

Leo

Scorpio

Aquarius

Now we see the Twelve brought down to three. Quality: Cardinal, Mutable, Fixed. Represent the type of action, and staying power each sign has.

Cardinal signs initiate action, Fixed signs Carry it through, and Mutable is the glue between them all.

Cardinal signs are flexible, they can change their route of action but their goal remains the same. Fixed Signs rarely change anything. Mutable signs go with the flow.

Fire:

Aries

Leo

Sagittarius

Water:

Cancer

Scorpio

Pisces

Air:

Libra

Gemini

Aquarius

Earth:

Capricorn

Virgo

Taurus

Now from twelve to four we move the Signs into categories divided by element type. We also see that each element has one of each mode(Quality) in it.

Fire – Creative, Intuition

Water – Sensitivity, Emotion

Air – Reason, Intellect

Earth – Sensuality, Practicality.

The main focus of this post, and the one before it, and one more to wrap it all together is to show you the foundations of how I view astrology.

Till Next Time~
